Kalsbeek helped design, implement, and analyze the Global Adult Tobacco Survey, consisting of face-to-face national surveys of 8,000-30,000 households in the 23 countries of the world with the highest tobacco use, including India. The survey was developed to study origins and current use of tobacco products, efforts to quit, and exposure to second-hand smoke.
