Dr. Michael O’Sullivan is a historian specializing in modern South Asia and the Middle East, with a focus on the economic and legal history of Muslim communities from the Balkans to Bengal. He earned his Ph.D. from UCLA and served as a Research Fellow at Yale Law School. His work explores topics such as the first Muslim banks, early Saudi paper currency, and Ottoman treasury bonds in India. Current projects include studies on 19th-century Indian trade in the South China Sea and Gujarati Muslim rivalries in the Indian Ocean.
