Modern Indian Studies Graduate Student Workshop Facilitator

Funded by the Modern Indian Studies Initiative at UNC, this workshop aims to bring together graduate students interested in Modern India for meaningful discussions and collaborations.

What’s the workshop about?

In Spring semester 2025, a group of us will meet at least four times across the semester to dive into various themes related to Modern India. As the GSWF, you’ll play a key role in shaping our conversations and activities, making sure they resonate with what we’re all curious about.

Who is the audience for the workshop?

The workshops will welcome undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at UNC to join as a peer-learning community. MIS faculty and staff will only come as invited to enhance our conversations.

What will you do?

  • Connect with Peers: Survey participants to gather ideas on topics of interest and reading suggestions.
  • Plan Our Schedule and Meeting Themes: Create an engaging schedule that includes both discussions and activities. Themes can be around content (climate change, partition, business practices), methodology (fieldwork, archival, team-based research), or skill development (writing, getting published, presenting for non-experts, translating research to policy).
  • Invite Faculty: Coordinate with faculty who specialize in Modern India to share their research or practical insights on conducting research in the region, as meets the group’s needs.

Just a heads-up: You won’t be teaching any material, so it’s all about facilitating great discussions!

What’s in it for you?

The selected GSWF will receive a stipend of $1,000 for organizing our workshop activities. It’s a fantastic opportunity to enhance your leadership skills and engage deeply with Modern Indian Studies!

Who can apply?
